In 2018, three biology graduate students at Duke University paired artists with scientists to collaborate on creation of artistic representations of the scientists’ data, leading to an exhibition called Art of a Scientist. It was so successful that it was repeated the next year, but the global pandemic in 2020 led to a hiatus.

One of the original creators of the exhibition (Ariana Eily, now a PhD plant biologist) is currently collaborating with NC State’s Office of University Interdisciplinary Programs to revive the annual event with NC State as its home institution.

Look for Art of a Scientist to return in the Spring/Summer of 2026.
