• Gregg Museum of Art & Design: Three exhibitions are now open. Leading by Design celebrates the 75th anniversary of the NC State College of Design. Selections from the Collections is open in the historic residence gallery spaces and features a sampling of the many different kinds of pieces in the Gregg collection. BLOW UP II: Inflatable Contemporary Art (closing Jan. 27) highlights the imaginative ways that air can be used as a medium to create large-scale sculptures. Galleries are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• The Gregg Museum is hiring a student ambassador.
• In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the North Carolina Chamber Music Institute presents a program of music by Black composers, performed by faculty artists and guest musicians, including Olga Kleiankina from the Department of Performing Arts and Technology. Monday, Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of the Nativity.
• The theme for NC State’s week of events to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is “Persistence: A Roadmap to Equity, Freedom and Justice.” The commemoration opens with a keynote panel discussion on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 3:30 p.m. in the Talley Coastal Ballroom.
• Workshop: Creating Paths to Persistence. Multicultural Student Affairs hosts an art-making event as part of the MLK commemoration. Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 5 p.m. at the African American Cultural Center in Witherspoon Student Center.
• King and the Klan: A Visual Experience. Civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. spoke at Reynolds Coliseum on July 31, 1966, following an 1,800-person march where the Ku Klux Klan protested his appearance. Doctoral student Margaret Baker has produced and curated a digital installation and a short documentary film that tells the full story. Hill Library, Cyma Rubin Visualization Gallery. Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m.
• Programming for change: Ukrainian citizen and NC State film studies alumna Darya Levchenko will provide an overview of the political aspects of contemporary international film festivals, including how film programming can serve as a tool for making subtle but seismic changes in cultural landscapes. Presented by the Department of English, Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 3 p.m. Caldwell Hall lounge.
• The Global Film Series will present a program of animated short films by Ukrainian filmmakers, introduced by NC State alumna Darya Levchenko. Thursday, Jan. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Witherspoon Cinema.
• WKNC is offering two virtual training sessions in the next week for both paid and volunteer positions: news content creator on Jan. 16; and blog, video, podcast and interview content creator on Jan. 17.

• Inside SEMC: Winners of the 2023 SEMC Museum Professional and Competition Awards. The latest publication from the Southeastern Museums Conference features award announcements, including two for the Gregg Museum (see pages 38 and 42).
• Walter Magazine: The King’s Speech: When MLK Visited NC State’s Campus. In the summer of 1966, Dr. Martin Luther King spoke at Reynolds Coliseum.
• Technician: NC State alum fights to preserve Ukrainian culture. Technician assistant culture editor Riya Kannan interviews NC State film studies alum Darya Levchenko, who will be on campus for events this week (see above). Levchenko, a Fulbright Scholar, has used the experience from her time at NC State to aid in her mission to preserve Ukrainian culture.
