Celebrity social media influencer Safiya Nygaard is known for her YouTube series Bad Beauty Science in which she has mixed together all of her liquid lipsticks, foundations, eye shadows and highlighters to create “Franken” products. She is credited with starting a YouTube trend of mixing large quantities of a single type of product together to create new and innovative products.

On Sunday, Nov. 14, the NC State University Crafts Center hosted Nygaard for the filming of a jewelry episode to be aired later this year. She has over 9.2 million followers with over 1.4 billion views on her YouTube channel.

Nygaard reached out to the Crafts Center with the idea of melting down vintage sterling silver jewelry to create a series of new pieces. The center engaged jewelry instructors Sarah Tector and Suijin Li to coach Nygaard during the filming. The results are stunning new jewelry pieces that can be repurposed into new and innovative forms.
