Monday, April 26

• Crafts Center: Registration for summer crafts classes – both in-person and online – opens at 9am today for everyone (NC State student registration opened April 19).

Tuesday, April 27

• Gregg Museum: Visit your museum! Galleries open 10am-5pm.

• Crafts Center: Spring Pottery Sale. Claim a bargain at the sale of unclaimed pottery from classes. Prices from 50 cents to $25. Thompson Commons, on Jensen Drive, just outside the Crafts Center. 3:30-6:30pm.

• NC State LIVE and the Dept. of Music: Virtual master class with the American Spiritual Ensemble and Nathan Leaf’s choral music students. 4:30pm.

• University Theatre: Strictly Speaking. Alejandro Fajardo is a Colombian lighting designer and photographer based in NYC, with experience designing for plays, musicals, operas and dance around the U.S. 6pm.

Wednesday, April 28

• Gregg Museum: Visit your museum! Galleries open 10am-5pm.  

• Dance Program Lunchbox Series: Students in Response – The Election and Political Climate. The final event of the semester will feature student artists within the dance community at NC State, who will discuss the election of 2020 and the artistic projects they created that helped them to express their viewpoints. These virtual conversations are free and open to all. Program at noon; registration closes at 10am.

Thursday, April 29

• Gregg Museum: Visit your museum! Galleries open 10am-5pm.  

• University Theatre: Strictly Speaking. Director, filmmaker and actor Andy Señor Jr. made his professional debut in the Tony Award-winning musical Rent as Angel, playing the role on the stages of Broadway, London and tours. His documentary, Revolution Rent, will be released this spring, with Neil Patrick Harris as executive producer. The film is about bringing Rent to Cuba for the first time. Señor – the child of parents exiled from Cuba – directed the Spanish-language production, the first Broadway-level show in Havana in 50 years. 6pm.

Sunday, May 2

• Dept. of Music: Exploring Inherited Trauma and Mental Health through New Musical Works. Experience the virtual world premieres of works by composers Allison Loggins-Hull and Tift Merritt, whose compositions have been influenced by legacies of intergenerational trauma and the evolution of mental health treatment in the United States. The NC State orchestras – the Raleigh Civic Symphony and Raleigh Civic Chamber Orchestra – will perform the works under the direction of Peter Askim. Learn more and register. 7:30pm.

• Two weeks only: Senior psychology major Aysia Slade was named winner of the 2020 Creative Artist Award in theatre for her play Static. Indoor audiences for the University Theatre performances in March were extremely limited due to COVID guidelines, but the show was filmed and is now available on YouTube for a two-week run (ending May 7 at 7pm). • Congratulations to four music and dance faculty members who have been approved for promotion to Teaching Professor: Peter Askim, Olga Kleiankina, Autumn Mist Belk and Beth Wright Fath.

• The last week of classes brings Wolfstock 2021, a two-and-a-half-day festival that includes on-campus and virtual activities, as well as two nights of virtual musical performances, Wednesday-Friday, April 28-30.

• Crafts Center clay studio manager Jennifer Siegel is getting “eggsited” about her “eggsibition” coming up May 7-9 at Gretchen Quinn Pottery in Raleigh’s Five Points (2003 Fairview Road). Scramble to get the details at www.clayvoyant.com.

• There are two drive-in concerts still to come in the spring NC State LIVE @ the Lot series: Jack the Radio (May 6) and Caique Vidal and Batuque (May 20). For gate passes, Arts NC State faculty and staff should contact Katherine Fuller directly at mkfuller@ncsu.edu.

• The Student Art Sale continues! Start here for instructions or go directly to the online gallery, where you can explore paintings, mixed media works, photography and 3D pieces available for you to purchase. You pay the students on their individual gallery sites, and they keep 100% of the proceeds.

• Triangle Business Journal: Is the Triangle ready to return to in-person events? Here’s what our exclusive survey found. The Business Journals conducted a survey of businesspeople across 44 markets, including the Triangle. “For the Triangle, out of 167 respondents, 53 percent said they’re now ready to return to in-person events while 22 percent said they’ll be ready in another month or two and 18 percent said they’ll be ready in three to six months. 6 percent said they’ll need more than six months.”

• American Theatre: Del Shores Foundation Names Allison Bergman Exec. Director. Allison Bergman, a former assistant director of University Theatre, will lead an organization aimed at finding and nurturing new Southern queer artistic voices.

• The News & Observer: She left Nashville for NC. Her 2nd act is promoting needed diversity in country music. Singer-songwriter Rissi Palmer, presented on the NC State LIVE @ the Lot series in October, is the N&O Tarheel of the Month.

• Entrepreneurship News: 2021 eGames Winners Announced. Winners of the Arts Impact Award were announced by Chasta Hamilton, a member of the Friends of Arts NC State board of advisors. The Arts Impact Award is designed to recognize ventures built by artists or built to specifically address the needs of artists in pursuit of the creation and presentation of original works of art, arts experiences, or arts-related learning opportunities. The winners are Team Lykke, led by student Hayden Wempe from Poole College of Management; and Team Hexerate, with members Caleb Davis, Matthew Agustin, Ivey Floyd, Asa Latta and Quoc Vu, all students in the College of Engineering.
