• Gregg Museum of Art & Design: Visit your museum! Galleries open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and until 8 p.m. and the first and third Thursday of each month. Three exhibitions are open for viewing: Crossed Kalunga by the Stars and Other Acts of Resistance, Chris Hondros – Conflict photography, and Will Henry Stevens – Pastels and drawings.

Thursday, December 2

• First day of exams.

• Gregg Museum of Art & Design: Viola and cello performance by a duo from the United Strings of Color. The Philharmonic Association’s United Strings of Color was formed in 2018 to inspire and encourage all young people to pursue classical music. Free; registration required. 6 p.m.

Saturday, December 4

• Crafts Center: There are only a couple of seats still available for a two-day ornament carving workshop, open to all skill levels. Learn more and register quickly.

• NC State LIVE: Concert by “Southern Soul” artist Rissi Palmer, host of the Apple Music podcast Color Me Country. Learn more and get tickets. 8 p.m.

• Earlier this month, Arts NC State presented the annual creative and performing arts awards in a virtual ceremony. The awards celebrate NC State students who either create new work and/or perform in dance, music or theatre.

• The NC State University Crafts Center hosted celebrity social media influencer Safiya Nygaard for the filming of a jewelry episode to be aired later this year. Nygaard has over 9.2 million followers with over 1.4 billion views on her YouTube channel.

• The nominee list for the 2022 Grammy Awards was released on Nov. 23. It’s always fun to check for amazing artists who have performed here on the NC State LIVE series. This year’s list includes Stewart Copeland, Kenny Barron, Kurt Elling, Nnenna Freelon, Esperanza Spalding, Jazzmeia Horn, Arturo O’Farrill, Angelique Kidjo, and Pierce Freelon, along with two artists from back when the PineCone series was presented in Stewart Theatre, Béla Fleck and Shemekia Copeland.

• The Wilson College of Textiles showcases talent, creativity and skill at the annual Threads Fashion Show. Saturday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. in the State Ballroom. Learn more and get tickets.

• City Ballet Raleigh will be presenting three performances of The Nutcracker in Stewart Theatre on Dec. 10 and 11. Learn more and get tickets.

• NC State has a new arts entrepreneurship club. The group will meet bi-weekly beginning in spring 2022, and will plan professional and student art residencies, workshops, and art shares. The club is open to all students looking to gain knowledge about entrepreneurial arts ventures. Those who are interested in participating should complete this short form.

• Have you registered for a spring 2022 crafts class? Explore classes in clay, fibers, glass, jewelry and metals, lapidary, mixed media, new media, photography, and wood.

• Something to note on your calendar: University Theatre has announced a costume sale scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 15, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Classical Voice of North Carolina: Raleigh Civic Symphony Orchestra premieres The Other Side of the Hungry River by Tift Merritt. CVNC published a lovely review of the Nov. 21 concert by one of the two orchestras of NC State University, based in the Department of Music.

• Walter Magazine: The Paper Project. Check out this fun article (and terrific collection of photos) about the Paper Wearables Parade at the NC State College of Design. “The event marked the culmination of a six-week interdisciplinary studio intensive course for first-year design students aimed to spark creativity and challenge their approach to critical thinking.”
