Monday, January 10

• Crafts Center: Opens for spring semester at noon. Have you registered for a crafts class or workshop?

• Dept. of Music: Jazz, choral and orchestra auditions take place this week. Check the details on the Music auditions page.

Tuesday, January 11 through Saturday, January 15

• Gregg Museum of Art & Design: Visit your museum! Galleries open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and until 8 p.m. and the first and third Thursday of each month.

Wednesday, January 12

• Crafts Center: Last day for the current group of featured artists at the Member-Made Street Gallery.

• Campus Resource Fair: Arts folks will be on hand to answer questions at this Winter Welcome Week event. Talley Mountains and Piedmont Ballrooms. 2-4 p.m.

• University Theatre: Spring Auditions Orientation Session. Students can prepare for the upcoming auditions for The SpongeBob Musical and A Case of Salt (Jan. 18 and 19) by attending this optional orientation session. University Theatre auditions are open to all currently enrolled NC State students regardless of gender, race, ability, identity or academic major. 7 p.m.

Thursday, January 13

• Dance Program: Embodied Afro-Contemporary with Clarice Young, part of the Masterclass Series. This free class will draw upon fundamentals from multiple forms from the African diaspora as well as contemporary dance, and is open to all NC State students, faculty and staff. Preregistration is required and space is limited. Intended for intermediate dance level. 5:45 p.m.

Saturday, January 15

• University Theatre: It’s a Costume Sale. There will be a wide selection of items great for cosplay, photo shoots, or theatre productions. Thompson Hall, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• What are you doing to stay motivated during this unusual time? In his latest “Our Life in The Arts” blog post, Rich Holly discusses motivation for artistic creation.

• Arts NC State is hosting a one-week residency with visual artist Clarence Heyward, January 24-28. Heyward is a painter and collagist whose work explores notions of the Black American experience. While some events are open to NC State students only, others are available to faculty, staff and community members. The residency is being coordinated by arts outreach and engagement intern Sabrina Hurtado.

• NC State’s African American Cultural Center opens a new exhibition, Black Girl Maverick, featuring the work of artist Avery Bolden. On Friday, Jan. 14, there is a lunchtime discussion with the artist at noon, and an opening reception from 5-6 p.m. Note that registration is required for both events.

• Tickets for all NC State LIVE spring 2022 performances are available now. The schedule includes three concerts, three dance performances, and a fascinating theatre performance for kids.

• NC State University Libraries News: Preview of Centennial Campus public art at the Hunt Library. A maquette of the future Larry Bell art installation is on display.

• Walter Magazine: Forward Momentum: Four Design Projects that will Change Raleigh. One of the four is the Larry Bell public art installation on Centennial Campus, described here by Larry Wheeler, director emeritus of the North Carolina Museum of Art. Note: The projected installation date is fall 2023, not 2022.

• Barre-Montpelier Times Argus: Music Review: Askim brings spice of today to VSO Holiday Pops. A great review of a concert by the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Peter Askim, director of orchestra studies in the Department of Music.
