Clarence Heyward at NC State

Arts NC State invites you to participate in a series of campus residency events with visual artist Clarence Heyward, Jan. 24-28, 2022.

Now living and working in Raleigh, Heyward is a Brooklyn-born painter and collagist whose work explores notions of the Black American experience. His work investigates cultural truths, challenges stereotypes, and questions identity.

While some events are open to students only, others are available to faculty, staff and community members. Residency topics will include hidden racism, how to make a living as a fine artist, collage creation, and an opportunity for you to paint at the Free Expression Tunnel.

This artist residency is presented in partnership with the African American Cultural Center, NC State University Libraries, Caldwell Fellows, and the Campus Conversations Project of the NC State Office of Outreach and Engagement.

The residency is coordinated by Arts NC State intern Sabrina Hurtado, a senior arts studies major, arts entrepreneurship minor, and Caldwell Fellow.
