• The Crafts Center: This is your last chance to see the exhibition of wood objects, paintings and photography created by wood studio manager Nic Jackson, open through Nov. 2.

Tuesday, October 31

• The Crafts Center is hosting a free pumpkin painting party for NC State students, 6 to 9 p.m. Register on Reporter to reserve a pumpkin. Refreshments and music will be provided.

Tuesday, October 31 through Saturday, Nov 4

• Gregg Museum of Art & Design: Visit your museum! Leading by Design celebrates the 75th anniversary of the NC State College of Design. Selections from the Collections is open in the historic residence gallery spaces and features a sampling of the many different kinds of pieces in the Gregg collection. BLOW UP II: Inflatable Contemporary Art opens (with an outdoor event) on Saturday. Galleries are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Wednesday, November 1

• Student playwrights: Today is the submission deadline for the 2023-24 Creative Artist Award in theatre. There is a $500 cash prize. The winner’s work will be developed in spring semester with a workshop showing in fall 2024.

• Gregg Museum of Art & Design: Free woodwind performance by the NC State Quintet. 6 p.m.

• Department of Performing Arts and Technology: NC State Choirs fall concert. 7:30 p.m. Stewart Theatre.

• Lights Up!: University Theatre’s production of the 2022-23 Creative Artist Award-winning play, What We Grew Up With, opens Thursday, Nov. 2. Hear student playwright Kiran Soma, play director Usha Bajpai, and Josh Reaves discuss the production with Wayne Leonard on WHUP radio.

• The Global Film Series presents a free screening of Parasite, a 2019 dark comedy thriller and winner of the Academy Award for Best Picture. Monday, Oct. 30 at 6:30 p.m. Witherspoon Student Center Cinema.

• Last chance this semester: Artist Notes With 95.7 FM THAT Station at The Corner on Centennial, featuring free Thursday nights of music and storytelling. Performing this week: Django Haskins of The Old Ceremony. Nov. 2 beginning at 5 p.m. Food trucks and Trophy Brewing will be on-site.

• The Friends of the Libraries fall reception takes place Thursday, Nov. 2 beginning at 6 p.m., featuring New York Times best-selling author Silas House. He will discuss his latest novel, Lark Ascending, winner of the 2023 Southern Book Prize. Duke Energy Hall at Hunt Library.

• Moonlight in the Garden is back at the JC Raulston Arboretum.

• Fish Market Gallery, operated by students in the College of Design, returns for First Friday in downtown Raleigh on Nov. 3 from 6 to 11 p.m. at 133 Fayetteville Street.

• The Arts Village, in collaboration with Arts NC State and the NC State University Libraries, is bringing back the popular Arts and Your Major series in November. Learn more and register for free events.

• CALS Magazine: A Beautiful Balance. The fall 2023 magazine of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences features a story and video about Kara Pawlowski, a biochemistry major, member of the State Dance Company, and winner of the 2021-22 Creative Artist Award in dance for her work titled “The Complexities of Loneliness.” (A digital version of the full magazine is available here.)
