CHECK. IT. OUT.
• Create Over Break: Spring semester brings the annual Creative Artist Awards and Student Art Sale – and the chance for NC State students to win prizes of $500.
• Enjoy a new recording from Ladies in Red! NC State’s student-led female a cappella group recorded their arrangement of LSD’s “Thunderclouds” (remotely, of course) during the fall 2020 semester.
• Since 2004, globalFEST has been an invaluable resource for NC State LIVE. The flagship festival takes place every January in conjunction with the APAP booking conference in New York City, and is North America’s most important world music industry event. It’s been a godsend for presenting organizations with modest budgets (like NC State LIVE), offering an opportunity to experience a curated multi-stage concert of remarkable emerging artists from around the world. In November, globalFEST announced it would be partnering with NPR to present a four-night online festival in January 2021 hosted by African superstar Angélique Kidjo, that would include four alumni performers. The globalFEST alumni performers were announced on December 11, and all four (plus the host!) have performed on our series at NC State. The newly announced artists include Ukrainian avant-folk group DakhaBrakha, Tunisian born experimentalist Emel Mathlouthi, Afro-Indigenous vocalist and songwriter Martha Redbone, and visionary Malian singer Rokia Traoré. Mark your calendars. This is going to be awesome.
