• NC State LIVE: Choreographer David Dorfman leads a lecture/presentation with the University Honors Forum. 3 p.m.
• Arts Village in collaboration with Arts NC State and NC State University Libraries: Arts and Your Major, a series of programs illustrating how the arts overlap and enhance STEM careers and studies. Focus Your Major: Photography and Nature Science with Dr. Matt Bertone, director, Plant Disease and Insect Clinic. Hill Library Auditorium, 5 to 6 p.m.
• NC State LIVE: Choreographer David Dorfman and David Dorfman Dance company member Claudia-Lynn Rightmire lead a master class with the American Dance Festival at Samuel H. Scripps Studios in Durham. 6 p.m. (This event is full.)

• Dance Program and NC State LIVE: David Dorfman and his company will lead a free master class – “Movement Is Necessary” – for NC State students, faculty and staff. Carmichael Dance Studio 2307. Learn more and register. 4:30 p.m.
Thursday, November 10
• Gregg Museum of Art & Design: Interactive Rangoli Demonstration. Join Seema Kukreja for a demonstration of rangoli drawing, and the opportunity to design your own creation on the pavement and sidewalks in front of the Gregg Museum. This program is presented in conjunction with the Gregg’s Across the Threshold of India exhibition, which closes on Nov. 12. Free. 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
• The Crafts Center: Fluxus Art Happening. Exhibition by students in the Arts Studies program. 5 to 7 p.m.

Sunday, November 13
• Dept. of Music: In conjunction with Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, NC State’s Raleigh Civic Chamber Orchestra will present a concert that highlights hunger, homelessness and hope. A pre-concert showcase (beginning at 3 p.m.) will feature community and campus organizations that serve and advocate for people living with challenges of hunger and homelessness. Concert in Stewart Theatre at 4 p.m. (tickets online).

• The submission deadline for the Creative Artist Award in theatre is Monday, Nov. 14. This award recognizes an original work in theatre created by an NC State student. The winning playwright receives $500, and the winner’s work will be developed in the spring semester with a workshop showing the following fall semester.
• Lunch Local Live: WKNC is partnering with Visit Centennial to present live music at the Corner (941 Main Campus Dr.), Wednesdays from 12 to 1 p.m. through Nov. 16.
• Windhover, NC State’s literary and arts magazine, is accepting submissions for the 2022-23 edition. The priority deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 23.
• Poets, writers and solo musicians: Windhover is hosting an open mic night on Thursday, Nov. 10, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Caldwell Hall Lounge. If you would like to share your art, learn more and submit your request here. Performing slots are 2-5 minutes.
• November is Native American Heritage Month. Learn about music, food and pop culture that connect Indigenous students at NC State, and events planned to celebrate the month.
• Global Tea and Coffee: Campus Enterprises and the Office of Global Engagement host a free event to celebrate the significance of tea and coffee in cultures around the globe. Fountain Dining Hall. Thursday, Nov. 10, 2 to 4 p.m.
• While Kwanzaa is traditionally celebrated Dec. 26 to Jan. 1 (during the university winter break), the African American Cultural Center has planned an early campus celebration taking place Nov. 11 to 18.

• Carolina Arts: North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, Offers Look at an Egyptian Tent. Read about the Egyptian tent on display at the Gregg Museum through Dec. 23 (page 34).
• Walter Magazine: Honest Chronicle: An Ode to David Sedaris. Before Raleigh native David Sedaris became so famous that he could fill large halls like DPAC, he appeared on the NC State LIVE series in 1998 and 2005.
• DownBeat: Kenny Barron Enters the DB Hall of Fame. Less than a week after appearing on the NC State LIVE series with violinist Regina Carter, the December issue of DownBeat magazine was unveiled, featuring renowned jazz pianist Kenny Barron on the cover. This issue includes the 87th annual DownBeat Readers Poll which includes winners Regina Carter (violin) and Cécile McLorin Salvant (female vocalist). Salvant is scheduled to perform on the NC State LIVE 50th anniversary season on Feb. 2, 2023.
