CHECK. IT. OUT.

• It’s the last week of early voting: The Talley Student Union early voting site will be open daily through October 31. The site is open to all Wake County residents. There is plenty of free parking in the bays beside Reynolds Coliseum. See hours and all details.

• Shana Tucker – arts leader, cellist, singer-songwriter and teaching artist – has a long history with Arts NC State. This week, she will be working with NC State LIVE as an artist-in-residence. With her band, she performed on the NC State LIVE series in 2011 and 2020. In the 2000s, she was the concert coordinator for the NC State Department of Music. For five years, she was the cellist and vocalist for Cirque du Soleil’s in Las Vegas, while also touring the country as a performing artist. Just announced: Shana is the new executive director of Kidznotes, a music for social change program based on the El Sistema model of youth orchestras that serves schools in Durham and Raleigh.

• Explore the new Wood Project Series at the Crafts Center. Maybe think ahead to some holiday gift-giving? Project supply kits have been designed, prototyped and developed by wood studio manager John Metzler, and come ready-to-go with pre-cut material, hardware and instructions.

• Jazz students in the NC State Department of Music have been busy building an impressive playlist on Soundcloud. The Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Combo and Jazz Lab Band have been recording remotely this fall while classes are meeting online, then Dr. Wes Parker brings the magic to mix it all together. Tunes by Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Benny Carter and more. Take a listen!
