Open to all NC State Students: Bollywood Piece Auditions

The NC State Dance Program invites NC State students in any major to audition for the Bollywood repertory piece on Tuesday, Sept. 5, from 5:30–7:00 p.m. in Carmichael Dance Studio 2307. The piece will be performed in the Dance Program Fall Concert in November and taught by one of the top 20 Bollywood dancers in the U.S. and an NC State alumna Neelam Patel.

Vibrant costumes, lively music and upbeat phrases will be combined to share a love story between two individuals falling in love. The high-energy Bollywood piece routine will be encompassed of movement and expressions from various dance forms and styles.

Auditions: Tuesday, Sept. 5, 5:30–7:00 p.m. No registration required.

Rehearsals: Tue/Thu nights in Carmichael Dance Studio 2307. Times TBD.

Performance: NC State Dance Program Fall Concert on November 16 & 17 at 8pm in Stewart Theatre

Dance experience: Intermediate (1-2 years of any formal training, such as jazz, hip-hop, ballet, ballroom, etc.)

About Neelam Patel

While completing her B.S. in biology at North Carolina State University, Neelam Patel was an auditioned member of the university’s academic dance company the NCSU Dance Company and co-founded Nazaare, the NC State’s first competing Bollywood Fusion team.

Neelam Pate was selected as one of the top 20 Bollywood dancers in America and competed on India’s number one dance reality show, Dance India Dance, placing the second runner up and has performed on international platforms such as the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA).

Prior to graduating high school, Neelam Patel was Wake County’s Junior Miss in 2011. She was selected to attend the Governor’s School of North Carolina for dance, participating in a number of showcases while completing coursework in theory and composition.

Currently, Neelam works at a biotechnology company Diapharma as a southern territory manager, teaches as a freelance instructor and choreographs for her Youtube channel with over 30,000 subscribers.
